Biography

A voice for the person behind the proxy

Fe Bencosme is an author, educator, speaker, world traveler, and founder of Meridian House. A native New Yorker raised between St. Croix and the Dominican Republic, she brings to her work a life shaped by teaching and travel across nearly sixty countries.

Her talks explore culture, nationality, memory, belonging, and the ways people understand themselves and one another. Drawing on history, travel, and lived experience, Fe invites audiences to look beyond assigned categories and consider the shared civic bonds that make a diverse nation possible.

Fe is the author of You Are Not Your Race: Embracing Our Shared Humanity in an Age of Categories, coauthor of The Adventure Guide to the Dominican Republic, and a recipient of the Lowell Thomas Award for travel writing.

Through Meridian House, Fe creates books, talks, and travel projects that place the individual person at the center of conversations about identity and American life.
