Fe Bencosme wearing a wide-brimmed hat and carrying a tote that reads, I took a DNA test and my race is human

About Fe

A life across borders.

Fe Bencosme has been crossing borders all her life. A native New Yorker, she was raised between her parents’ homelands: amid the trade winds of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the rolling hills of the Cibao in the Dominican Republic.

That early movement between places became the foundation for a life of teaching, writing, and travel across nearly sixty countries. Fe is the coauthor of The Adventure Guide to the Dominican Republic and a recipient of the Lowell Thomas Award for travel writing.

Across her books, talks, and travel projects, Fe explores how culture, nationality, memory, and belonging shape identity. She draws on those encounters to invite a broader conversation about citizenship, shared humanity, and what it means to be an American.
